Castlefield Gallery wishes you a happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!
Thank you to all visitors, artists and partners who engaged with us and supported us throughout the year!
Please note, Castlefield Gallery will be closed over the winter break from Sunday 22 December to Tuesday 7 January inclusive.
In the meantime, you can enjoy the publications and videos that we shared online throughout the year.
VIDEOS
This year, we have shared a series of videos in which artists and curators introduced the exhibitions of our 40 year anniversary programme. They are all available to watch on our YouTube channel here
– 40 Years of the Future: Painting
– 40 Years of the Future: Where Should We Be Now?
– 40 Years of the Future: Jo McGonigal x Frank Bowling
All videos filmed and edited by Jules Lister.
PUBLICATIONS
– (An Archive of) Archives at Play, designed by George Gibson, with an essay by Grace Collins
The (An Archive of) Archives at Play publication is an archive of Archives at Play. The content of the publication was taken from the archive of Castlefield Gallery, through the archive of curator Thomas Dukes, via the archives of artists George Gibson and Grace Collins.
(An Archive of) Archives at Play, as an archive, like many archives, is a messy, cherry-picked, vaguely annotated, incomplete subsection.
– Frank and Jo Make Space at Castlefield Gallery by Griselda Pollock
Frank and Jo Make Space at Castlefield Gallery is an essay responding to the work of McGonigal and Bowling, written by Griselda Pollock, Professor emerita of Social & Critical Histories of Art at the University of Leeds to coincide with our exhibition 40 Years of the Future: Jo McGonigal x Frank Bowling.
– Jeffrey Knopf, The Closest I Got to Freud’s Desk, 2024, essay by Clare O’Dowd
– Theo Simpson, essay by Duncan Wooldridge
Commissioned with the University of Salford Art Collection, these texts were produced in response to the work of artists Jeffrey knopf and Theo Simpson to coincide with our exhibition 40 Years of the Future: Where Should We Be Now?
