Continuing our broad 2019 theme of Futureproof Your Practice, Taneesha Ahmed joins us to talk about her work in the engagement and education departments of The Tetley and Grundy Art Gallery, how she works with artists and how she recruits artists.
Taneesha Ahmed is the Participation Producer at The Tetley, and most recently a recipient of the Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education in 2018. An engagement and education arts professional currently based in Leeds, she has over ten years experience. Prior to moving to Leeds she was the Education Officer at Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool.
Last year she worked on an international digital project in collaboration with Karachi Biennale to make a series of films with children from Leeds and Karachi. Over the course of the project 135 schoolchildren visited These Silences Are All The Words, an exhibition exploring the legacy of literature, language and libraries in postcolonial Pakistan. At Grundy Art Gallery she coordinated the place-based project Writing with Light, an art and literacy project which saw 237 Key Stage 2 pupils visit the gallery over a fortnight and installed the biggest ever schools outreach exhibition of 300 pupils’ artworks.
Taneesha has recently applied for the Extend Leadership Programme, a professional development programme open to applicants working in learning and education roles, across all art forms.
