bOlder 2020/21 Artists Announced
Posted on 27 October 2020
We are excited to start working with the ten artists selected for bOlder 2020/21, a talent development programme for Greater Manchester-based contemporary visual artists aged over 50. The artists were chosen through a competitive application process and selected careful consideration as to who would gain significant creative and professional development by participating in the programme.
bOlder 2020/21 is a unique programme designed to support artists’ careers and creativity in later life. It also aims to support the creation of high quality contemporary art in Greater Manchester and to support vibrant and diverse cultural activity in Greater Manchester by fostering greater cultural participation.
The bOlder programme will offer an intense period of creative and professional development support, tailored for the artists as individuals and as a group. Castlefield Gallery Artist Development Co-ordinator Jane Lawson will lead the programme which will include one-to-one coaching, professional development workshops, support towards their costs of up to £250, a materials bursary, and development sessions with Castlefield Gallery Director/Artistic Director Helen Wewiora and Castlefield Gallery Curator / Deputy Director Matthew Pendergast.
bOlder 2020/21 follows the success of bOlder 2019/20 which was devised in response to the lack of professional development opportunities for older artists nationally and was funded by GMCA as part of Great Place GM. The artists from bOlder 2019/20 are currently working on the exhibition Obstructions which previews at Castlefield Gallery on 21st November and opens to the public fully on 22 November 2020.
The ten selected artists are:
