A Round of Toasts
A Round of Toasts
14 December 2021
6.30
For Castlefield Gallery Associates members only
For our end of year celebration we have invited Manchester artist Jackie Haynes to lead us through an evening of festive toasts over zoom.
The event will be part performance, part participatory artwork and a memorable online social gathering. Associates are invited to attend with drinks and snacks and to dress up in a festive way, (upper body only due to Zoom – we don’t need to see below the torso!)
Throughout the evening Jackie will show a series of short video vignettes that humorously explore the traditions of Christmas from the infamous 1963 Dinner for One TV sketch to The Divine David’s “Christmas Masterclass” and her collaborative work with Heather Mullender-Ross, “Merzwomen and the Daughters of Dada: Dinner for Three”. Between vignettes attendees will be invited to share stories of home made decorations or memories of their favourite bauble and propose festive toasts inspired by the video works.
It promises to be an entertaining and alternative festive celebration.
About Jackie Haynes
Jackie Haynes is a Manchester-based artist and art practice-based researcher. Her artwork has a textiles background due to her previous job of costume designer, maker and proprietor of House of Haynes Fancy Dress Hire for 17 years in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
Her practice is increasingly low(ered) carbon, using left-over materials and non-electrical tools and she is a regular contributor to the Manchester Art Gallery Climate Justice Group. She is a founding member of Proximity Collective and TSAP (Terrace Square Artists Project), and collaborates with Heather Mullender-Ross as the interchangeably named Artist A and Artist B.
Jackie is currently nearing the end of her PhD exploring the collaborations and migrating motifs of the German Dada artist, Kurt Schwitters, at University of Cumbria in Carlisle. Writing has consequently become part of her creative practice and she regularly reports on Manchester City Council’s Communities and Equalities Scrutiny Committee for Climate Emergency Manchester.
