Volunteer Spotlight: Eve Gittins
Posted on 25 October 2022
This month we have asked Eve Gittins to contribute to our Volunteer Spotlight series where we are asking volunteers to share their experience with us.
Thank you to our fabulous volunteers for contributing to the continued success of Castlefield Gallery.
Hi Eve! Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
I began volunteering at Castlefield Gallery a little under a year ago. Since graduating in 2020 from Manchester School of Art, I missed meeting creatives and seeing exciting new art come and go. I saw an opportunity for volunteers around December 2021, and here we are.
What made you want to volunteer here?
I wanted to volunteer here to meet new creatives and to contribute to a registered charity. I believe that keeping contemporary art free and welcoming to every member of the community is essential. I’ve loved learning more about what that involves for the people who make it possible.
What’s your favourite thing about volunteering at Castlefield Gallery?
Casltefield Gallery’s staff, the other volunteers, the artists and the visitors, all offer a refreshing perspective on the city’s art. I volunteer when I can, depending on work and spending time in my own studio, so it varies how often I can help out at the gallery, which they completely understand.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
The weird little Castlefield Gallery clan is so close knit and the space is always changing with whichever exciting exhibition is on next. It’s a real pleasure helping them and becoming a part of their team.
