Posted on 12 May 2023
We are delighted to share that James Mathews-Hiskett, a current member of Castlefield Gallery team, will be taking over the coordination of the Associates programme from next month. James currently works as Finance Coordinator, and was also behind the podcast series “Chewing the Fat” supported by Castlefield Gallery and A Modest Show. James has been at the gallery for five years and having recently completed an MA in Curating at Manchester School of Art, during which he participated in The Curators of Tomorrow Fellowship Programme with Q21/MuseumsQuartier Wien, he is full of enthusiasm for the Associates programme and its future development.
James trained as an artist, gaining a BA in Fine Art, and is a past Rogue Artists Studios studio holder. He has previously held the position of Associate Curator at Pavement Gallery in Manchester, written for regional arts press and produced projects such as Extension, an exhibition developed at Castlefield Gallery’s New Art Space in Wigan. He has also been an associate himself for six years.
After having co-ordinated the Associates programme for nearly two years Laura Mansfield will be leaving Castlefield Gallery in June.
Laura Mansfield said: “Some of my highlights from my time at Castlefield Gallery have included working on El Morgan’s exhibition Tale of the Frozen Bits, which came from a proposal as part of the Associates Open Exhibition call out and co-ordinating the selection process of the gallery’s first round of funded Associate memberships. Developing a collaborative bursary with Corridor8 for Associates to respond to exhibitions in the gallery programme. Hosting an Open Screen night at SeeSaw Space Manchester showing over 30 works by Castlefield Gallery Associate artists and artists participating in the programmes of EOP Eastside Projects Birmingham, Primary Nottingham, The Newbridge Project, Gateshead and Spike Island Associates Bristol, as well as getting to programme a range of events that explored neurodiversity as a positive tool for creativity with artists and academics including Kai Syng Tan, Ashokkumar Mistry, Starling CIC, Rachael Colley and The Sensory Tool Kit.“
The Castlefield Gallery team and Castlefield Gallery Associates are immensely grateful for Laura’s work and dedication into developing the Associates programme for the past two years.
