Volunteer Spotlight: Syana Wibowo
Posted on 23 October 2024
Hi Syana! Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
After finishing my Master’s last year, I wanted to get more involved in Manchester’s local heritage and art spaces. Luckily, I saw an opportunity to volunteer at Castlefield Gallery and thought the role was great for me who doesn’t really have a background in art. I’ve been volunteering for almost 6 months now!
What made you want to volunteer here?
I think a big reason why I was particularly interested in volunteering here is the gallery’s direct involvement with the local art community and how the gallery is an encouraging art space for both artists and audiences.
What’s your favourite thing about volunteering at Castlefield Gallery?
As someone who has a history background, learning about the story or narrative behind an artwork and briefly discussing it with visitors is definitely one of my favourite things about volunteering at the gallery. Other than that, just being able to spend a lot of time in the space itself has been keeping me inspired for my own projects.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
You should definitely do it! I think the opportunity will bring new experiences and inspire you in many ways. Having the chance to take a peek into how a gallery operates and being able to engage with different people is really great. Most importantly, the team here are all so welcoming and helpful. I think you will for sure find excitement and gain new skills when you volunteer here.
