Castlefield Gallery is excited to be working with Quays Culture to programme a series of six presentations that will inspire creative practitioners based in Greater Manchester and beyond.

The series of six 3-hour long events will feature nationally and internationally renowned creative people and organisations from a selection of the most dynamic creative practices including acting, animation, art, moving image, performance and creative writing. Through the presentation of case studies the speakers will highlight some of the many diverse routes to developing careers in these exciting and creative disciplines.

Art and intervention in the public realm

Join us on Sat 2 Mar,  2-5pm at IWM North, part of Imperial War Museums to hear speakers Alistair Hudson, Deputy Director of Grizedale Arts, Billie Klinger, Producer from outdoor arts experts Walk the Plank and Maggie Clarke, Director/Founder of outdoor performance specialists XTRAX.

Grizedale Arts is a curatorial project in a continuous state of development, based in the historic site of Lawson Park farm above the Coniston valley in the lake district. The site is run as a productive small holding and working farm house, with an ongoing programme of events, projects, residencies and community activity.  Recent projects have included the Colosseum of the Consumed, a food-related performance, discussion, representation and retail outlet at the 2012 Frieze Art Fair and the Coniston Institute Library, an ongoing renovation and bringing back to full use of the Coniston Mechanics Institute, a new public lending library designed by artist Liam Gillick.

Walk the Plank are outdoor arts experts who create powerful artistic events with mass appeal. From international stage to village square, their specialist team develop remarkable moments that enrich the lives of their audience through shared experience – encouraging a sense of place, a feeling of pride, and well-being. They empower artists and communities through creative development, transforming people and the places in which they live through opportunities to engage with accessible, artistic excellence.

XTRAX supports inspirational outdoor performance running projects, festivals and showcases designed to promote innovative outdoor work from national and international artists. Over recent years XTRAX has produced and commissioned several new pieces of outdoor work. XTRAX is a founder member of the Without Walls consortium, a partnership of outdoor festivals established in 2007 with a view to supporting and developing new outdoor work from a new generation of British artists. XTRAX recently produced, As The World Tipped, an extraordinary piece of aerial theatre that told a powerful tale of ecological crisis.
