Castlefield Gallery Associates Spotlight: Ellie Hoskins
Posted on 15 May 2023
This month we have asked Ellie Hoskins to contribute to our Castlefield Gallery Associates Spotlight series, in which current Castlefield Gallery Associates share their thoughts on what the programme offers and how it has been useful for them.
Can you tell us a little bit about your practice?
I’m an artist and writer from Cumbria, now based in Liverpool. My practice is diaristic and frank: I combine black humour and millennial nihilism with an immersion in the rituals and details of everyday life. Having come from a fine art background, I have recently been focused on developing a writing-based practice that extends into visual formats. Sharing work online, my main aim is to shine a light on the universality of my own private moments of absurdity, and to have others find comfort in relating to them.
How did you hear about Castlefield Gallery Associates and why did you want to join?
I came across it on Instagram, and wanted to join to be part of a wider artistic community. Liverpool is so close to Manchester, but for whatever reason I don’t feel like I’ve managed to make many strong connections to the city yet. I’m hoping that being a part of Castlefield Gallery Associates puts me into contact with likeminded people and possible future collaborators.
What are you looking forward to most about your coming years membership?
Getting to know the other artists involved, and gaining access to opportunities and spaces that I might not have otherwise.
