Posted on 12 June 2022

The announce ten artists who will be taking part in the latest Conversations Series have been announced; Omid Asadi,  Jennie Franklin, Jackie Haynes, Raheel Khan, Sarah LeeHorace Lindezey, Millie Loveday, Deborah Makinde, Laura Nathan, and Leslie Thompson

The theme of this years Conversations Series is narratives and the ten artists will work alongside each other to develop shared ideas, create new work and explore personal narratives around heritage. Five of the artists are based at Ventures Arts and five were selected after a public call out earlier this year.

Conversations Series is a programme of four artistic projects and residencies delivered by Venture Arts aimed at creating new work in a shared exchange of art and ideas. Venture Arts is a progressive visual arts charity based in Manchester with over 30 years of experience working alongside learning disabled artists to create exciting new collaborative visual art work. Conversations Series brings together a range of artists, with and without learning disabilities, to develop collaborative, reciprocal learning and creative exchanges. Through this, it is hoped that open conversations and new dialogues about the role of art in contemporary society will be generated.

These ten artists are working together to explore any shared or parallel identities/histories, with the aim to create a new body of work over a five month residency at Venture Arts. There will also be opportunities to work with other organisations to support artists to further explore heritage themes within their work.

The resulting work will be shown in an exhibition at The Lowry from January to March 2023. To follow the project in the meantime keep an eye on Venture Arts social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), where the Narratives artists will be taking over and sharing insights from the project every Friday.

Narratives is part of the EXPLORERS project, led by Project Art Works. EXPLORERS is a dynamic collaborative programme of art and action that opens up routes into artistic practice for neurominorities, dismantling attitudinal and systemic barriers to representation and rights in art and society.
