Portfolio Review Sessions for Contemporary Visual Artists

In partnership with Creative Industries Trafford, Castlefield Gallery is pleased to be offering an intensive day of one-to-one 45-minute portfolio review sessions with specialist curators, arts professionals and gallerists for contemporary visual artists.
Portfolio viewers on Tuesday 19 November include writer, curator and director of Nottingham Contemporary Sam Thorne; Founder and Director of iMT Gallery Lindsay Friend; and Castlefield Gallery Curator Matthew Pendergast.
Successful applicants can bring their work either in digital form on a laptop or tablet, or in print form up to A3 size to the session.

Deadline for applications: 12 Noon, Tuesday 5 November 2019
Successful applicants will be notified of their time slot and advisor by Friday 8 November.
Application process & cost
Sessions are: £10 (full) / £8 (concs. / CG Associates) per person. Creative Industries Trafford and Castlefield Gallery works to keep costs for artists as low as possible by part subsidising the programme.
There are only 20 places available so apply now by emailing: cit@watersidearts.org with a brief description of your work (50 words) and your reasons for applying (50 words) along with any relevant web links.
Submission is free and only successful applicants are required to pay. Artists selected for the portfolio reviews will be asked to make payment before the event – we will let you know how to pay when the slot is confirmed. We are unable to make any exceptions to this as we do not have facilities to take payment on the day of the event.

Sam Thorne is a writer and curator. He is director of Nottingham Contemporary. Previously, he was artistic director of Tate St Ives and associate editor at frieze magazine, where he is currently a contributing editor. In 2013, he co-founded Open School East, a free-to-attend study programme. His book, School: A Recent History of Self-Organized Education, was published by Sternberg Press in 2017.
Lindsay Friend is the Founder and Director of iMT Gallery, a contemporary art gallery specialising in multimedia and new media in London. The gallery represents David Burrows, Paola Ciarska, Lotte Rose Kjær Skau and Plastique Fantastique. Previously Administrator at Unit2 Gallery, London and Local Advisory Committee member of V&A Museum of Childhood.
Matthew Pendergast is a curator based in Manchester, UK. He is curator at Castlefield Gallery, where he works with regional, national and international artists at all stages of their careers. He has delivered multiple self-initiated projects including: Hankering for Classification, New Art Spaces: Federation House (2014) co-curated with Elizabeth Wewiora; Rule of Three, Islington Mill (2013) co-curated with Jeni Holt Wright. In 2011 he completed a Curatorial Residency at 501 Art Space, Chongqing, China. He previously worked for Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA), Manchester.
