Jane Lawson
Artist Environmental Lead
Jane Lawson has been a knitwear designer, a researcher in corporate ethics for Ethical Consumer magazine, a founder member of radical design collective UHC and a co-organiser of the UK Climate Camps. She has worked for Castlefield Gallery since finishing a degree in Visual Arts at the University of Salford in 2012, initially setting up and running Castlefield Gallery Associates and then taking on other artist development roles such as the gallery’s graduate programme, the bOlder scheme for artists aged over 50 and the SUSTAIN low carbon artmaking programme.
Alongside this she has developed her own artistic practice, working with fungi to loosen the grip of capitalist realism on our collective imagination and making diagrams to map out the processes and structures that shape our world. In 2023 she completed an MA in Art and Ecology at Goldsmiths and in her current role as the gallery’s Artist Environmental Lead she has kickstarted SPARK, a network of North West-based artists wanting to intervene in the climate emergency.
