Volunteer Spotlight: Andrei Cioineag
Posted on 7 November 2023
This month we have asked Volunteer Andrei Cioineag to contribute to our Volunteer Spotlight series where we are asking volunteers to share their experience with us.
Thank you to our fabulous volunteers for their amazing work.
Hi Andrei! Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
Hello, I have been volunteering since early May this year. I am a graphic designer based in Manchester, hailing from Romania. After completing my master’s degree earlier this year, I was eager to explore the art world of Manchester and this brought me here.
What made you want to volunteer here?
I chose to volunteer at Castlefield Gallery to gain an understanding of the effort involved in curating art exhibitions, organizing artist talks, and coordinating events. I find Manchester to be an exceptionally vibrant city, incredibly supportive of local artists, and because I have always been interested in art I wanted to contribute to this scene and learn as much as possible about it.
What’s your favourite thing about volunteering at Castlefield Gallery?
I am often fascinated by other people’s views on art because I get to know the person through their aesthetic sensibilities, and I discover new angles to look at art. My favourite part of the volunteering experience is, therefore, engaging in conversations about art history, modern art, and trivia with some staff members like Ryan, Leslie, the curators, and the more talkative visitors.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering with Castlefield Gallery?
I would tell them that Castlefield Gallery is a fantastic place to explore the inner workings of a gallery, meet some inspiring people, all the while being around contemporary art. What else could be better than this?
